- 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 oz cream cheese
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup almond flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 large egg beaten, for brushing
- Sesame seeds optional, for topping
Melt the Cheese:
Combine the mozzarella and cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl for easy melting.
Microwave for 1 minute, stir, and heat for another 30 seconds until fully melted. Stir to combine into a smooth mixture.
Mix the Dough:
Add the almond flour, baking powder, and egg to the melted cheese mixture.
Stir until the ingredients are well combined. If the dough feels sticky, lightly oil your hands and knead it until smooth and pliable.
Shape the Buns:
Divide the dough into four equal portions.
Shape each portion into a smooth ball, then press gently for a bun-like form.
Prepare for Baking:
Place the buns on the prepared baking sheet.
Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the tops with the beaten egg for an even, glossy finish.
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added texture and flavor (optional).
Bake:
Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the sides are firm.
Cool and Serve:
Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
-
Storage: Keep any remaining buns fresh by storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where they’ll stay good for up to three days. Reheat in the oven or microwave for the best texture.
-
Freezing: These buns freeze well. Wrap each bun individually in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw before reheating.
-
Substitutions: Coconut flour can be used in place of almond flour, but reduce the amount to 1/3 cup and add an extra egg for moisture.
-
Toppings: Customize your buns with poppy seeds, dried herbs, or grated cheese before baking.
